Portsmouth Citadel Band
Portsmouth Citadel Band is amongst the most well known of all Salvation Army Bands, formed in 1880, and establishing itself very early on in its existence as a group of muscians striving for the very highest of standards.
It was amongst the first Salvation Army Bands to broadcast and has produced many recordings; it has travelled widely in Europe and the USA, all in the desire to spread the Gospel of Jesus.
2005 saw the band celebrate its 125th anniversary and to this day it is still unchanged in its aims and is maintaining those high standards it has set itself during those 129 years. It is first and foremost a group of Christian musicians striving to use their talents as God would have them do.
Led by Bandmaster John Hanchett since 2007, Portsmouth Citadel Band of The Salvation Army may be 131 years old but is still just as relevant and maybe even more healthy than ever! Bandmaster John continues to lead a resurgent band to new heights, with many younger bandsmen and women taking up positions in the band. In October 2009 the band recorded its latest CD “Deep Harmony”.
The Portsmouth Citadel Band were so well received in 2011 that the BigChurchDayOut are delighted to welcome them back to the Tea Tent in 2012.
